A red rash with a white center, often called a bullseye rash, is a good indication that you have lymes disease. Another name for this bullseye rash is erythema migrans. Lyme’s disease is a tick borne disease that can affect each person differently. This is only one indication that you may have lymes disease, but not the only way.

Lyme’s disease, caused by the bacteria called borrelia burgdorferi carried by ticks. When bitten by a tick that bit mice or deer with this bacterium, you get the bacteria too. This bacterium makes you very sick and sometimes causes the bullseye rash.

Often time’s people misdiagnose the rash, because it isn’t always one size or the other. The rash can vary in size, appearance, and color. The rash can appear at the site of the tick bite, but many times that doesn’t happen. There are times that there are several bulls eye rashes throughout the body, but only one tick bite. There are also cases that the bite occurred on the arm, but the rash is on the leg. This makes it very easy to misdiagnose lymes disease.

Usually people don’t ever see a tick but a bullseye rash appears somewhere on the person’s body. Some people will ignore it, not knowing what it is, and thinking it will go away. Unfortunately the rash will go away, but the lymes disease does not. Having lymes disease going untreated is very dangerous.

Many people will miss the tick or the rash if it’s in the scalp. It’s very important to check your scalp, or your children’s scalp every night. Checking the scalp is very important. Some people will just feel around on the scalp thinking that is enough. They can miss the bullseye rash which is very important to getting treatment. Always make sure you check the scalp in the light, and you look for the bulls-eye rash.

The rash was first named the bullseye rash because it often looks like a bullseye. It will be a red ring around a white center. Sometimes it’s a few rings of red around white rings, white center. Don’t be confused though, as there are times that there is no white center. The rash though is often circular in shape. Any red rash should be checked by a physician though, even if you don’t think it is lymes disease.

You don’t want to miss it if it is lymes. Lyme’s is a dangerous disease that always needs treatment. Earlier treatment is most effective in minimizing the side effects and conditions associated with lymes disease. Lyme’s disease can attack your neurological system causing you a lifetime of issues when gone untreated.

If you have what appears to be a bulls-eye rash the best thing to do is take a picture of it immediately. It could lighten, or disappear before a doctor can see it. Taking a picture of it will help your doctor to see what you’re referring to. No matter what, you should ask for blood work to rule out lymes. But always be proactive when dealing with what looks to be a bullseye rash.
